News5 host and iconic multimedia and literary personality Lourd de Veyra recently bagged another award for his continuous and significant efforts in proudly upholding and promoting the value of Philippine culture and history.
The National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA), the Philippine institution primarily tasked to implement the overall policies and programs on Philippine culture and arts, has recently acknowledged Lourd de Veyra for his wide-spread cultural contributions, bestowing upon him the recognition as the Best Culture-Based Documentation Host for two of his hit programs on TV5 — “History with Lourd” (every Wednesday at 10:30PM) and “Word of the Lourd” (every Friday, during “Aksyon sa Umaga”).
Both programs have developed a notable following, especially because of the unique mix of entertainment and education viewers enjoy while watching them. The weekly program “History with Lourd” sheds light on several controversies and untold stories in Philippine history that have long intrigued scholars and common citizens alike — basically, history topics and lessons that are not discussed in schools. Meanwhile, “Word of the Lourd”, which has especially become a hit among netizens, features satires and candid commentary by Lourd himself on several relevant news and political issues.
2014 has noticeably been a banner year for awards for Lourd, after the same program, “History with Lourd”, was likewise recognized by the Hildegarde Awards with the Outstanding Achievement in the Broadcast Media (Television) award earlier this year. Likewise, Lourd also took home the Adamson Media Award, besting other media practitioners from all over the country and being just the fourth person in history to win the award (and the first from TV5).
Lourd de Veyra is also at the helm of the morning news program “Aksyon sa Umaga” (weekdays at 5:00AM) and hosts the weather segment of the flagship primetime newscast program “Aksyon” (weeknights at 6:15PM) on TV5.
