July 4, 2014 (Taipei, Taiwan) – As the nation paid homage to the champions of the Philippine revolution in June, the Philippine government, Filipino community and private sector in Taiwan, in partnership with ABS-CBN Global Ltd. Taiwan Branch (ABS-CBN TFC), also paid tribute to the new breed of heroes or overseas Filipino migrant workers (OFW) and mothers via two, succeeding major events in Taiwan.
On June 15, the New Taipei City, Far Eastone Telecoms and the Ministry of Labor in Taiwan, through the TFC Hour, shared Kapamilya fun and laughter at the Philippine National and Migrant Workers’ Day in Taipei as it brought the house down with the comic flair of the dynamic duo from the well-loved series “Be Careful With My Heart:” Tart “Doris” Carlos and Vivieka “Sabel” Ravanes. During the TFC Hour, Carlos and Ravanes exchanged their trademark banters and surprised the migrant workers with their singing prowess.
The comic duo also conducted an exciting search for the Ser Chief of the Day where participants were asked to deliver their own ‘pick-up’ lines and ‘join’ hands with the Pinoys in attendance, true to the ‘kapi-bisig’ form, popularized by the duo’s program, “Be Careful With My Heart.”
Earlier in May, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) Labor Affairs represented by former Labor Attache and now Undersecretary Reydeluz Conferido, and Deputy Director Evelyn Laranan, honored mothers who are able to successfully balance their overseas work and family life via the 2014 Mother’s Day Celebration at the Chengde Recreation Center, Shilin District also in Taipei. Highlighting the tribute was the search for the Best OFW Mother of the Year. The friendly competition, organized by the MECO Labor Center in cooperation with the 16 organizations of the (Federation of Filipino Communities) FFC, screened OFW mothers based on the sacrifices they have made and the inspiration they share as role models for other OFWs who are mothers. Reminiscent of beauty pageants, the nine contestants of the Best OFW Mother of the Year paraded in their casual and long gown ensemble and went through the traditional question and answer where Sabina Garfillo emerged winner.
To add more excitement to the event, ABS-CBN TFC challenged members of the audience to a puzzle game where they were asked to form the images from their favorite teleseryes such as “Dyesebel” and “Ikaw Lamang.”
The team also gave away ABS-CBN TFC goodies during the raffle draw, where OFW Jhade Aaron Guina took home the latest model of a popular tablet brand.
As one of the highlights of the two events’ TFC Hour, the ABS-CBN TFC team unveiled the network’s 20th anniversary theme “Galing ng Filipino, Ituloy Mo! (Forge Ahead with the Greatness of the Filipino)” with Total Performer Gary Valenciano showcasing the TFC 20 dance moves via the network’s anniversary music video.
Ailene Averion, Managing Director for Asia-Pacific of ABS-CBN Global Ltd. Philippine Branch said: “Just as ABS-CBN TFC is celebrating 20 years of spreading world-class information and entertainment and sharing the innate greatness of the Filipino, we also want to continue reaching out to more Filipinos who need to continuously reconnect with home.”
As the Filipino network truly in the service of Filipinos worldwide, ABS-CBN TFC, provided participating OFWs and other participants a glimpse of its newest offerings plus treats during the two events’ TFC Hour.
The event is just the first of a series of events ABS-CBN TFC is tapping with key partners to showcase the network’s commitment to continuously provide linkages to home for Filipinos in Taipei.
