Every year on the 25th of Christmas, the Filipino family enjoys their Christmas day going on picnics, outings and some will just go to the mall to eat and watch a movie. It has been a tradition in the Philippines to stop the showing of all foreign films and pave way to the Metro manila Film Festival (MMFF).
There are at least 13 films submitted to this year’s MMFF screening committee, at least 8 or 9 of them came from independent producers, meaning, they’re not from the major film studios. Which among these 13 entries will make it to the top 8?

The MMFF Screening Committee will then be selecting the final 8 entries to compete on this year’s MMFF. The official entries to the MMFF, that runs every year from Dec. 25 to the first week of January. The scope of the MMFF has been widened when MMDA Chairman Francis Toletino included independent films also called “indie“ films and student short film category where short movies created by students were featured.
The Metro Manila Film Festival started last 1975. It became an annual tradition, 8 Filipino Films are shown from December 25 till the first week of January. During the course of the festival, no foreign movies are shown across the Philippines. Moreover, only films approved by the jurors of the MMFF will be shown.
The festival highlight is the parade of floats and the awards night. The parade of floats of the movies is done before the 25th and the awards night is usually done 3 days after the first day of showing.
