The tie-up was formalized at Yamaha’s YZone in Ortigas City, where the two bodies acknowledged the common qualities reflected by the spirit of the UAAP and the innovative excellence of Yamaha, backed by ABS-CBN’s tie-up with the UAAP.
From the peak of human performance to a machine’s cutting edge efficiency, Yamaha’s excellence in motorcyle craftsmanship mirrors the UAAP athlete’s excellence in his or her chosen sport.
Present at the event to support the tie-up were no less than Jason Varilla from the Univesity of the East, this season’s lead school, and current UAAP athletes Michael Jerremy Mabanag from the Ateneo de Manila University, Mo Gingerich from the University of the Philippines, Alyja Daphne Santiago from the National University, Jason Varilla from the University of the East, and Bernadeth Pous from the Far Eastern University.
Basketball player Mo Gingerich addressed that this partnership with Yamaha will definitely boost the UAAP in terms of its constant growth throughout the years. “Each season seems to be bigger than the next—there’s more coverage, there’s more participation,” he said.
A partnership with Yamaha is something that the UAAP athletes also saw as something that would help their own respective sports grow in terms of participation and viewership. “More people, even beyond the city, can now be more aware about what’s happening in the local sports scene,” said volleyball player Alyja Daphne Santiago. Football player Michael Jerremy Mabanag also had a good deal to say of the issue. “Instead of settling for not playing any sport at all, given the UAAP being shown on local television, this is a big plus for that chance for anyone to be someone. Partnering with Yamaha, which is a big company, makes the UAAP a stronger entity in the media. It gives people that awareness,” he said.
In line with this, Yamaha will also be holding a graphic design contest for the MIO Sporty model, wherein a winning design will be selected for each university in the UAAP. The top three designs for each school will be featured and winners will receive different prizes, with the top design from each school set to be customized by Yamaha Motors Philippines for an event display. Apart from the bikes themselves, premium items such as top quality jackets have been designed in line with the tie-up between the two entities.
With this great new partnership formed between ABS-CBN, the UAAP, and Yamaha Motors, Inc., there will definitely be more to look forward to in the seasons to come—a thrilling experience and a great adventure—whether it be on the road, in the stands, or on the courts.
