On Monday afternoon, May 5, 2014, fugitive model Deniece Cornejo finally surrendered to the authorities. Deniece is one of the five people charged with serious illegal detention in connection with the January 22 mauling of actor Vhong Navarro.
Wearing a black polo shirt and white blue ball cap, Deniece arrived at Camp Crame in Quezon City at around 4 p.m., PNP Chief Supt. Reuben Theodore Sindac confirmed with radio DZMM.
According to Sindac, Deniece was accompanied by her grand uncle Rod Cornejo and was brought to the office of PNP chief Alan Purisima to discuss her surrender. After meeting with Purisima, Deniece and her companions boarded a PNP Coaster and proceeded directly to the office of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Deniece is facing charges for serious illegal detention and grave coercion in connection with the mauling of comedian-host Vhong Navarro in her condo unit at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig in January this year. Serious illegal detention is a non-bailable offense.
Deniece’s co-accused, businessman Cedric Lee and martial artist Simeon Palma aka Zimmer Raz, were arrested last April 27 in Eastern Samar. While other suspects Ferdinand Guerrero and Jed Fernandez remain at large.
