The Rescue5 team, led by TV5 Public Service Head Sherryl Yao and News5 Anchor Paolo Bediones, received an award for Most Appreciated TV Network Rescue Group in the Country from the Philippine Public Safety and Order Support Group (PPSOSG). The awarding was held at Camp Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo recently.
PPSOSG is a non-government public safety training organization composed of volunteers from the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other groups that actively cooperate and take part in the successful conduct of various activities of different public safety and order and law enforcement agencies of the government.
The organization cited Rescue5 for its “successful and effective delivery of lifesaving programs combining media and emergency medical first responder services, setting an example worth emulating by other groups both in the same and other industries.”
Rescue5 is the pioneer in the Philippines, and as cited by international news agency CNN, probably the first in the world, in equipping news reporters and cameramen with lifesaving skills, allowing them to deliver not only news but also crucial assistance during emergencies and disasters.
This Holy Week, Rescue5 promotes safe road travel through Aksyon sa Kalsada. The team will set up 24-hour first aid stations at the Araneta Bus Terminal from April 14 (Holy Monday) to April 17 (Maundy Thursday), and in Shell Balagtas at the North Luzon Expressway on April 16 (Holy Wednesday).
Aside from emergency medical assistance, free drinking water, calls and electronic device charging services will also be available with the help of Maynilad, Smart Communications and One Meralco Foundation.
Road safety plugs currently air on TV5, its news channel Aksyon TV, and Radyo5 92.3 News FM, Rescue5 shows motorists and travellers relevant tips to a safe journey to their destinations.
The team will also conduct a sticker campaign to remind motorists to call its hotline number 922-5155 in case of emergency.
