The similarities between GMA Network’s “Carmela” and Giuseppe Tornatore’s film “malena” was observed by netizens, others posted their reactions to social networking sites and some on their blogs.
The story of “Carmela” revolves around the story of a woman named Carmela (played by Marian Rivera) that all men love and all women love to hate. Since Carmela is the most beautiful in her town, she’s envied and hated by most of the women. Then here comes a young guy (played by Alden Richards) who secretly admires her. Directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, “Malèna” is an italian movie that tackles a story of a beautiful woman, Malèna and was hated and envied in her town because of her attractive look which creates male sinful fantasies. And there’s this young boy who was secretly obsessed with her. The young boy played by Giuseppe Sulfaro was in his teenage years while Monica Belucci is in her mid-30s when they both did that film.

The plot sounds familiar if you will compare “Carmela” and “Malèna.” There’s an obvious similarity on the story, then the lead characters. “Carmela” and “Malèna” might be very similar in some aspects but at the same time, they differ significantly. Each show is of different mediums – one is a movie and the other one is a TV series. Both are sexy dramas. Each shows location are very different from each other – one is in Italy and the other one is in the Philippines. The action and events in the screenplays of “Malèna” took place during 1940’s while “Carmela” is in the present times. “Malèna” is a period movie, set in Italy during World War II. Same as “Malèna,” “Carmela” will surely be very effective in drawing you into the plot. Sometimes this is due to the telling of lifelike stories, or to the trials and tribulations of the characters.
