ABS-CBN’s “Buzz ng Bayan” (from “the Buzz”) left “Startalk” (which is over 18 years dominating its Saturday timeslot) behind on their first battle on TV ratings last Sunday. “Buzz ng Bayan” zoomed to the top of Sunday’s (January 26) most-watched TV shows and hit a whopping 20.5% national TV rating that left its new competition behind. The episode that featured Boy Abunda’s premium exclusive interview with Vhong was the no. 1 overall Sunday TV program, tied with Kapamilya sitcom “Home Sweetie Home.”
“Startalk” and “The Buzz” (now “Buzz ng Bayan”) are known to dominate their respective timeslots, and along the way several competitors came and went, such as GMA Network′s “S-Files,” “Showbiz Central” and “HOT TV,” and ABS-CBN’s “Showbiz Sabado,” “EK Channel,” “Entertainment Konek,” “Entertainment Live,” and TV5′s “Juicy” and “Paparazzi,” neither of which were able to equal or surpass the viewing audience of “Startalk” and “The Buzz.”
For those who thought that moving “Startalk” to Sundays is the right deal, sorry but you’re wrong. Their initial episode TV ratings can prove that. I just hope “Startalk” will not be cancelled in case the network lose hope on battle with “Buzz ng Bayan.” It won’t hurt for the network to return it to Satuday timeslot. Anyways, “Startalk” is still Philippine TV’s longest running showbiz talk show, which will be celebrating its 20th year on 2015.
