Next year, “The Baker King” will return on TV and will be remade by another channel, TV5, with Vhin Abrenica as lead. This series will be TV5’s first Korean drama remake and will be their first TV offering for 2014.
Vhin, is the brother of Aljur Abrenica who was hailed as Artista Academy’s Best Actor last year. He was last seen in TV5’s drama series “Misibis Bay” with Ritz Azul and Victor Silayan.
GMA Network first brought the No. 1 Koreanovela of 2010, “The Baker King,” to primetime TV. This series got audiences hooked in Korea with ratings hitting 50.8% and averaging 38.6% nationwide.
“The Baker King” tells of brothers Kim Tak Gu and Matthew (Gu Ma Jun) competing with each other to dominate the baking industry. A mistress’ son, Tak Gu loses his right to inherit his father’s baking empire and uses his superb baking talent to be number one in the industry on his own. On the other hand, his younger half-brother Matthew contends with him for their father’s approval. Feeling jealous of Tak Gu’s talents and his position, Matthew enters the baking world but ended up with countless setbacks due to lack of talent.
