Due to insistent public demand, Pinoy basketball fans will once again be treated to this year’s most historic sports moment – the Gilas Pilipinas versus South Korea game that propelled the team to the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
South Korea had been the Philippines’ rival for the dream to reach the World championship or a place in the Olympics in the past. And after years of heartbreaks and frustration, Gilas Pilipinas finally won against the Asian contender and booked one of the three seats to the FIBA World Championship in Spain. The momentous game sent Pinoys crying with tears of joy as the country finally returned to being an Asian powerhouse.
Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes remembered that poignant moment in August.
“It was like a script out of a Hollywood movie. Umiyak ako nung nanalo Talk ‘N Text, pero hindi ganito,” Reyes said of the moment where he was shown crying on the team’s bench after they won.
Sports5, the sports arm of TV5, brought the most comprehensive coverage of the 27th FIBA Asia Championship last August to over 90 Filipino viewers here and to millions more in 41 countries around the world. The heart-stopping game also made TV5 the primetime winner in the ratings game last August.
