However, its inability to perform in the sales may not only be taken accounted for the lack of publicity, casting of starlets but due to the entire production being sloppy and disorganized, which shone through the two hours of awkwardness.
The movie is all about hip hop dancers Elsa (Yassi Pressman) and Lando (Sef Cadayona) who might have been smiled upon by Lady Luck to have met each other. With their own unique personalities, both artists brought about what was needed to create spark in the eyes of the audience. They auditioned for a prestigious dance crew set to compete in the international arena.
And the catch? They fell in love with each other. While I commend the boldness of the filmmaker, making it a bit more complicated – adding interlacing angles to the basic framework didn’t really help much in making this movie worthy to stay in the movie house.
Worst of all, this seems to be a tribute to Francis M’s music but there’s a great disconnect with the dramatic elements of the scenes and the music that should have been the gluing the core of the story.
A Cat Trying to be A Tiger
With the effort to make the movie a bit more significant, they decided to dramatize the movie with political angle. However, the film failed to register when there is no definite scandal to begin with. There’s this tragic death appearing in between of the political hullaballoo, alongside the blissful flick between two kids who are in love with each other.
The entire story could have been told directly and impactfully, given the right methods. The brilliance in Francis M’s song lies in the sincerity and the straightforward attack which definitely captures the heart of the entire country to unify and move mountains. What’s even awkward is that they named the characters after the subject of Gloc9’s song, Lando. That alone showed mess – there’s clearly little research done that the play on the plot didn’t appear brilliant at all.
The Cast
Pressman and Cadayona, although fitting to the roles and have good chemistry – appeared lost in a film with no direction. Alma Concepcion plays Elsa’s Tita Carmen plays the old school Cruella Deville role ineffectively, which dragged the movie even more.
Promising actors as they are, the poorly-written script and the poor depiction of characters just killed it for them.
The Technicalities
Of all the movies I’ve watched so far, this one fails to entertain its audience – not only with the boring story, but also with the fact that the watchers can barely comprehend what these actors were saying. Most of the time, the actors look like they’re really into the scene but as a viewer, you won’t be able to relate with the story due to bad production.
This movie is truly mind-boggling for all the reasons. Kaleidoscope World isn’t a tribute but an insult. It doesn’t tell much of a story and casting young stars for the movie could have given a refreshing vibe but it didn’t. Overall, the movie tried so hard but failed miserably to entertain.
