Rescue 5, the Emergency Response Unit of TV5 News and Information (News5), received two Awards of Excellence at the Philippine Quill Awards 2013, the country’s highest and most comprehensive awards in business communication.
The entry “Rescue 5 Activity Book” won an Award of Excellence in Communication Skills (Publications Category) and was nominated for the Top Division Award for pioneering a fun and innovative way of teaching disaster preparedness to kids.
The team’s disaster response during the 2012 Habagat flooding was also recognized. “Rescue 5: Aksyon sa Habagat” earned an Award of Excellence in Communications Management (Multi-Audience Communication Category).
TV5 Public Service Head Sherryl Yao and News5 Anchor Paolo Bediones received the trophies.
“It is truly humbling to be recognized for our efforts. Rest assured that our Kapatids can depend on Rescue 5 in times of disasters and emergencies. We will continue to expand our lifesaving skills, and impart knowledge on disaster preparedness to the public, especially to children,” Sherryl Yao said.
Rescue 5 is the country’s trailblazer in cause journalism. It combines broadcast innovations and public service to deliver news that takes action.
The Philippine Quill Awards is annually organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines.
