Barangay Ginebra Kings and San Mig Coffee Mixers went head-to-head at the Smart Araneta Center, sister teams Meralco Bolts and Talk n’ Text Tropang Texters clashed in Cebu while the Alaska Aces battled the Rain or Shine ElastoPainters in Davao.

The opening ceremonies and the games were also telecasted live at TV5, the official home network of the PBA. Aside from TV5, the games will also have a simulcast on AksyonTV live every Wednesday and Friday at 5:30pm. Saturday games will air at 3:30pm while Sunday games starts at 3:00pm. Radio listeners nationwide can also follow the action at DZSR Sports Radio 918AM.
The PBA Philippine Cup opens with a laserlight show and dance performances from Manila, Cebu and Davao followed by the parade of teams and muses. Six Teams in Metro Manila and two teams each from Cebu and Davao.
Here are the muses for the six Metro Manila teams: Lauren Young (Air 21), Ms. Earth 2012 Teresa Fajksova (Barako Bull), Maxene Magalona (Global Port Batang Pier), Gretchen Ho (Petron Blaze), Isabel Oli (San Mig Coffee Mixers) and Marian Rivera (Barangay Ginebra Kings).
Another highlight of the opening was the induction to the Hall of Fame of four PBA legends, League pioneer Lim Eng Beng, the late coach Ed Ocampo, star players Ronnie Magsanoc and Benjie Paras.
To top the awesome event – Barangay Ginebra Kings won their first victory against San Mig Coffee Mixers in an exciting opening game that ended with the scores 86-69 in favor of the Gins.
