The calamity resulted to hundreds of casualties, displaced thousands of families from their homes and livelihood and knocked down a significant number of Bohol’s century-old heritage churches. Not even the world-famous Chocolate Hills was spared from the damage the earthquake caused.
But the resilience and the spirit of bayanihan remained intact and unfazed, as Filipinos in and out of the country exert valiant effort to provide support to victims and provide their immediate needs for rehabilitation. Foremost among those who responded to the call for relief assistance was Honda Foundation, Inc. or HFI.
As the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of the Honda Group of Companies in the Philippines (Honda Cars Phils., Inc. or HCPI, Honda Philippines, Inc. or HPI, Honda Parts Manufacturing Corp. or HPMC, and Honda Trading Phils. Ecozone or HTPE), HFI donated a total of Php1 Million to its long-time CSR partner, ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. (AFI).
Present during the signing of the deed of donation and turnover held at HPI’s state-of-the-art motorcycle manufacturing plant in Batangas were top officials of HPI and HFI, who turned over the amount of Php1 Million to “Sagip Kapamilya,” AFI’s disaster emergency and rehabilitation arm, represented by no less than its admired Program Director, Ms. Tina Monzon-Palma, who accepted the donation on behalf of the foundation.
Ms. Palma was amazed not only with HPI’s proactive involvement in CSR projects, especially in disaster relief and response, but also with the company’s capability of producing thousands of motorcycles. She, together with ABS-CBN Foundation’s Environmental Marketing Team took a tour of HPI’s impressive production line. They were much impressed with how the company has imbibed to its Filipino Associates, the diligent work ethics the Japanese are known for.
“If Honda has The Three Joys: the joy of buying, selling and creating as one of their corporate philosophies, we at Sagip Kapamilya has the joy of helping,” Ms. Palma pointed out at the start of her sharing of the group’s experiences and efforts in assisting and the rehabilitation of calamity survivors. “We have the capability of doing what we do, primarily because of our relationship with generous partners like you.”
Honda believes that had environmental responsibility remained a paramount concern among the people, natural calamities such as Earthquake and typhoons would have had less devastating effects in our lives. Taking care of Mother Earth is another of Honda’s aim to preserve this haven for humankind.
Back to back with this donation to Sagip Kapamilya is HPI’s CSR participation in accomplishing another environmental obligation, the turn-over of lead-acid batteries for disposal via the “Bantay Baterya Project of Bantay Kalikasan”. This tie-up project with AFI’s environmental program represented by Ms. Winnie Dimanlig, Division Head for Environmental Marketing, Ms. Ish Panganiban and Mr. Sherwin Hinlo, Senior Marketing Specialists, is another of HPI’s advocacy for the proper disposal and recycling of toxic substances. Improper disposal of lead acid batteries jeopardize the health of the society and causes serious hazard to the environment. Honda has been in partnership with Bantay Kalikasan for the last decade – (for checking).
The Honda Group remains committed to sustaining its worth to society and to the lives of the Filipino people by continuously providing assistance to distressed families, help rebuild lives and give hope in building a better future for the next generation. Honda is certainly delivering on its mission to become a Company that the Society will want to exist.
