Rocco Nacino will replace JM de Guzman as San Pedro Calungsod in a film about the Cebuano saint which will be shown at the Metro Manila Film Festival starting December 25. JM’s father Roniel de Guzman pulled out his son from the project due to ‘health reasons.’ JM’s father said he does not want the production team to ‘risk’ during the shoot in case JM encounters some ‘problems’ while filming, because of what he is going through.
The film is set to be shown this December as part of the eight (8) official entries of the annual Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). Its director, Francis Villacorta, told Yahoo! Philippines that he has made negotiations with GMA Network and that Rocco accepted the offer.
He said, apart from Rocco, other actor he had in mind were Paulo Avelino, Alden Richards, and Coco Martin. But it was Rocco who came on top of the list because he looks like the young saint and has already played Pedro Calungsod in a GMA News TV docu-drama.
Last month, “San Pedro Calungsod” was chosen as one of the eight entries in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival. Rocco is fresh from playing abducted activist Jonas Burgos in Joel Lamangan’s political drama “Burgos”. The film starts shooting in August and will end by October.
