Viewers preferred and trusted ABS-CBN’s “Sa Gitna ng Daang Matuwid: SONA 2013” as it rated five points higher than GMA’s “SONA 2013: A GMA News Special Soverage,” which only hit 9.4%.
The coverage’s live telecast on Studio 23, meanwhile, registered a national TV rating of 1.2%, edging out GMA News TV’s 0.8%.
Veteran broadcast journalist Ted Failon anchored the live coverage from the studio, with Lynda Jumilla and other ABS-CBN news reporters bringing the latest updates before and after the SONA straight from Batasan.
ABS-CBN’s other media platforms ANC and DZMM TeleRadyo also delivered live coverages for cable TV subscribers, DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 for radio listeners, and ABS-CBNNews.com, anc.yahoo.com, dzmm.com.ph, and ABS-CBN News’ Twitter acccounts for netizens.
A week before the ABS-CBN’s live coverage, flagship newscast “TV Patrol” aired a week-long series of special reports called “SONASerye” where the network’s veteran journalists explained the importance and history of the SONA, delved into President Aquino’s priority programs such as the public-private partnership projects, poverty reduction, national security, and the expectations on the SONA 2013.
