Cinema One will produce the Gawad Urian Awards Night for the year 2013 and 2014. This year’s Gawad Urian Awards marks the third straight year that Cinema One is producing the event that is well-recognized in local entertainment circles and awaited by cinema enthusiasts.
Cinema One is happy to align with the most prestigious award-giving body in the country,” Ronald Argulelles, Cinema One’s channel head says. “Cinema One and the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino have the same objectives. We both espouse progressive film making, highlight emerging and intelligent cinema talent and desire to move Philippine cinema forward.”
For their part, Manunuri president Tito Valiente says, “We decided to partner with Cinema One again because it is an institution that nurtures new talent and supports Philippine cinema. The airing of the Gawad Urian Awards on Cinema One will give our awards a popular appeal.”
The Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino is composed of film scholars, educators and journalists. “We are a mix of people from the academe and the public sphere,” describes Valiente.
The 2013 Gawad Urian Awards will be held on June 18, Thursday, at the Rockwell Tent, and will be aired on Cinema One shortly thereafter.
