The reality singing competition that took the world by storm has finally hit the Philippine shores!
The Voice Philippines is announced to air on June. Everyone, especially the music enthusiast, is already enthralled for this show to finally hit local TV. To elevate the excitement is the superb set of coaches who will mentor the aspiring artists namely Lea Salonga, Bamboo, Apl.de.Ap and Sarah Geronimo. The said coaches just recently signed contracts for the show.
During the recently concluded presscon, broadway diva Ms. Lea Salonga expressed how she wanted to be in the show the moment it was offered to her, “To be quite honest I wanna move heaven and earth to make it possible to do it.” It’s of no surprise that Lea’s schedule is packed from the many shows here and abroad. But according to her, everything fell into place and she managed to commit herself to the show. She’s not entertaining any shows overseas until the winner for The Voice of the Philippines will be announced.
Lea expressed how she’s massively impressed of the show’s concept for she can utilize it in finally paying it forward, “Everybody’s coaching is also a performer that has throughout the years of having been on this career were also coached by some amazing performers, some amazing teachers. So parang it’s an opportunity for each of us to pay it forward, to bring whatever knowledge we might have and pass it on.”
But she stated that the focus of the show should not be on them, “The Voice of the Philippineshas pick four illustrious individuals, all who have achieve something in this industry. However, the focus cannot be on us but the person who is singing and who is working towards that ultimate goal, and that’s what our job is, to kind of help them, push them, encourage them, inspire them, to get where they absolutely wanna go. Yong focus kailangan don sa mga contestants.”
The coaches’ first task is to pick who among the contestants they want to mentor on their respective teams via the blind audition. They will evaluate the contestants based on their voices alone. If they will like to mentor the contestant, they must press the button that will trigger their swiveling coaches’ chair to turn and they will get to see the artist in person.
Subsequently, they need to mentor and train the members of their teams. They will pick two members on their teams in a do or die match in the second round called the battle rounds.Whoever is picked by the coach at the end of every battle round will advance to the live performance shows.
In the live shows, viewers will have now the power to save their favorites from elimination by voting. The last one standing will be named ‘The Voice of the Philippines’.
On what kind of coach Lea will be, she relayed, “Bata pa lang ako, lahat ng naging teacher, coach, they were all honest. And minsan napapaiyak pa nga ako sa sobrang honest nila. But I figured that if you can make it through a coach that can be hard on you, then once you can actually get out of the real world, you’ll be strong enough to take whatever comes at you. I guess the one thing that I can contribute kung sino man ang magiging mga miyembro ng team ko ay ang katotohanan. What I can offer is honesty.”
Thrilled already for The Voice of the Philippines? Catch it on June in ABS-CBN!
