In the Philippines, the album still proves to be a mainstay in local music charts: Topping iTunes’ Top 10 Albums almost every day and dominating retailers Astroplus/Astrovision and Odyssey Music & Video’s International Album Charts. The songs from Pitch Perfect OST also continue to receive massive radio airplay as well. According to Billboard.com, as of March 2013, the album has sold over 570,430 copies in the US, making it the best-selling soundtrack of the year.It marks the first soundtrack to sell a half-million since The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1.
Six-time Grammy Award-winning American songwriter Harvey Mason Jr. recalls the soundtrack production of Pitch Perfect — “We were trying to make sure the film sounded authentic to the setting of where they were, but the soundtrack was different. We had a little bit more time and could make something that people want to listen to. You’re doing two different jobs when you’re doing the movie versus the soundtrack. With the film, you’re worrying about the environment you’re in. With the soundtrack, you just want to make it sound cool.”
Pitch Perfect is a musical comedy which features a cast consisting of Tony-nominated Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids), Skylar Astin, Anna Camp (The Help), Brittany Snow (Hairspray), Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Ben Platt and Adam DeVine. Pitch Perfect follows the storyline of the Barden Bellas, an all-female college acappella group from Barden University, trying to return and win the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, or ICCA. Mickey Rapkin’s novel, Pitch Perfect, was roughly adapted to create the film. The soundtrack features hit songs by Rihanna, Jessie J, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Flo Rida and Bruno Mars as interpreted by the film’s ensemble cast.
