November last year, ABS-CBN’s “TV Patrol” reported about a 57-year-old man, identified to be Roberto Garcia Apuyan, who was found dead in a hotel room after sustaining multipld stab wounds He was reported to have been killed by his 15-year-old lover. The news program even showed the supposed photo of the victim and the suspect. The photo, however, turned out to be the wrong persons. ABS-CBNNews.com also posted the same news item by veteran crime reporter Gus Abelgas, right above a sleazy ad for an “x-ray scanner” claiming to “reveal what’s underneath people’s clothes” and just below the photo of the TV Patrol troika of Ted Failon, Korina Sanchez, and Noli de Castro. The family has demanded for a correction on the identities and relationship of the subject of the photos and public apology from the news program. TV Patrol aired their public apology on its November 22 newscast.
Just last Saturday (February 16), another ABS-CBN Current Affairs show “Failon Ngayon” aired an episode about the alarming number of crimes involving minors today. Included in the photos shown in the video is still the wrong photo of Roberto Apuyan with her daughter Joan.
Joan Apuyan, an executive in a Singaporean real estate firm, reacted immediately to the misleading news report via a Facebook post which went viral minutes after posting.
