The first women’s Mixed Martial Arts bout in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) history will headline UFC 157 with undefeated UFC bantamweight champion Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey taking on United States Marine Corps veteran Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche. UFC 157 will be broadcast from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on Balls Channel on February 24 (Sunday) at 11:30 a.m.
Rousey (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is known for her fight-ending armbars in the first round and has been considered unstoppable inside the cage thanks to her Olympic-level judo. Carmouche (7-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC), on the other hand, has built a reputation for her power and grit and has won most of her fights via knockout or submission.
“Ronda is the real deal,” UFC President Dana White said. “She’s nasty. She’s mean. She’s like Chuck Liddell. She goes out there and tries to finish her opponents. And Carmouche is tough as nails, too. She was a Marine and she’s got great ground-and-pound. I look forward to having the women join the UFC.”
Also featured on the card is the light heavyweight bout between former world champions Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson, California favorite Urijah Faber facing off with Ivan Menjivar, and the UFC return of Robbie Lawler as he faces off with Josh Koscheck.
