Broadcast journalist Ted Failon investigates these shooting incidents on various checkpoints this Saturday (Jan 26) in “Failon Ngayon.”
Thirteen people were killed recently at a checkpoint in Atimonan, Quezon where police and military officers fired numerous gunshots at Vic Siman’s convoy after the group failed to stop at the checkpoint.
Meanwhile, two innocent people were killed in Parañaque in 2008 when police officers exchanged gunfire with fugitives. Fernando Lozado, on the other hand, was killed last 2001 after police officers mistook his identity for a criminal.
Reports say that these checkpoints were not well-lit and that the police officers involved were not wearing their proper uniforms.
Ted then further probes the issue and defines the rights of civilians when passing through a checkpoint. He will also explain to motorists how to determine if a checkpoint is legitimate.
