Quezon City, December 19, 2012–After a successful six-month run of the translated version of the longest-running program, Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) Classics, The Filipino Channel’s first sub-titled program caps the year with the tales of memorable figures in Philippine culture. In the spirit of the holiday season, TFC shares a stellar line up of episodes this December featuring the biographies of celebrities who have touched the lives of Filipinos here and overseas.
On December 1 (Tokyo, Sydney, Milan and Riyadh time) the longest-running drama program showcased the real-life stories of Filipino performers starting no less with international singing sensation Charice Pempengco, portrayed by former child star Sharlene San Pedro in an episode entitled Ice Cream. In this episode, viewers witnessed Charice’s inspiring journey to international stardom despite her family’s poverty and complex situation then.
Week after on Saturday, December 8 (Tokyo, Syndey, Milan and Riyadh time), MMK Classics shared the life story of legendary singer Joey Albert of the Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin fame with portrayal by Vina Morales. Joey was the youngest child of a well-off family who was headed by a father who worked in foreign service. Her father wanted Joey to follow his footsteps as a diplomat but the call of music proved stronger.
This week on December 15 (Japan, Sydney, Dubai and London Time) Enchong Dee plays a young man who may be blinded physically but has his eyes wide open to the reality that he needs to move on from his ailment in the episode entitled Parol. Enchong, a champion swimmer in real-life has also won the hearts of many for his portrayal in this episode.
On December 22, Roderick Paulate takes center stage as an Aeta (man of an ethnic race based in Zambales) man who has a tendency to be self-effacing in the episode dubbed Abo. Roderick’s endearing performance earned him the first Asian TV Awards for Best Drama Performance By An Actor in 1996.
Finally on December 29 via the episode Wristwatch, Roderick Paulate does an encore as he portrays a gay man who enjoyed a relationship with Ton-ton Gutierrez until the latter decided to turn straight. In an interesting twist, Roderick becomes friends with Ton-ton’s wife. Paulate won another acting award from the Asian TV Awards in 2000 for this episode.
