Metro Magazine, together with Metro Society, takes on this festive spirit with a holiday couture presentation by Philippine fashion’s next wave of couture designers – Metrowear: Fantasy – on November 25 at the EDSA Shangri-la Manila.
This is the first time that Metrowear will be mounting a holiday fantasy haute couture show, with each designer creating a 10-piece collection inspired by famous themes and beloved figures of the holiday season. The chosen design stars – Martin Bautista, Joel Escober, John Herrera, and Mak Tumang – were tasked to bring to life fantastic iconic holiday imagery by way of their extravagant couture interpretations of The Nutcracker, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Snow Queen, and 12 Days of Christmas.
As creating couture collections can be quite an undertaking, each designer had the opportunity to work with and be guided by their chosen mentors. John Herrera took inspiration from his long-time mentor internationally-acclaimed designer Cary Santiago for his elaborate gowns. Young designer Mak Tumang created his stunning pieces with the guidance of couture master Frederick Peralta. Joel Escober created elaborately designed pieces with the support of senior designer Noel Crisostomo while Martin Bautista showcases his beautiful feminine aesthetic as inspired by his mentor, top designer Rajo Laurel.
Metrowear: Fantasy will present these holiday couture collections set against a majestic winter forest backdrop designed by Jo Claravall. The show is directed by top fashion show director Jackie Aquino. The collections of designers Martin Bautista, Joel Escober, John Herrera and Mak Tumang is Metro Magazine’s and Metro Society’s toast to the festive spirit of Christmas and a celebration of Philippine haute couture.
