“Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles,” biggest and grandest horror movie of the year

“Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles” grossed 10.8 Million on its first day as confirmed by its executive producer Dondon Monteverde

“Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles” is the first feature-length Filipino movie entirely shot on green screen. Only the houses and vehicles are real. All the backgrounds, including trees, mountains and creatures were laboriously and painstakingly realized using the latest computer technology.

And as expected, it’s now reaping huge revenues at the box office! According to it’s executive producer Dondon Monteverde, the film grossed 10.8 million on its first day and expected to earn more on weekends.

The Erik Matti film, starring Dingdong Dantes and Lovi Poe with Joey Marquez, Janice de Belen and LJ Reyes, took close to P80 million and more than a year to produce.

Shot entirely in chroma key or “green screen technology,” the movie features the seamless integration of live action footage and three-dimensional computer graphics (CG) created by approximately 40 Filipino computer graphics artists.

The movie is produced by Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures (owned by Dingdong Dantes), Reality Entertainment’s sister companies and post-production arms PostManila and Mothership and GMA Films.

Dingdong plays Makoy, a devil-may-care guy who finds himself trapped in a situation that no person in his right mind would wish upon himself. When he comes to the province to reconcile with his estranged girlfriend Sonia (Lovi Poe), who is heavy with their firstborn, Dingdong’s character must device a way to keep his loved ones from safe and alive from an army of aswangs. “It is such an ambitious project and I am happy that I accepted it,” shares Lovi.

LJ Reyes who won raves as the town whore in this year’s Cinemalaya entry Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino, takes on the role of an aswang in Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles. “Direk Erik is a very brilliant director. He has an amazing mind. And very funny, too. The set never felt like a workplace.”

From the get-go, the concept was clear-headed. Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles was designed as a siege film. “It was about a group of people with their own dynamics, trapped in one setting with the danger constantly hounding them outside of that setting,” shares Direk Erik.

“Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles” is rated PG by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).  This means that children/minors may watch the film as long as they are accompanied by adults.
