“TV Patrol” Visayas celebrates 24th anniversary through coastal clean-up and tree-planting

More than a hundred volunteers actively participated in the coastal clean-up and tree planting activities held last weekend, in celebration of the 24th anniversary of TV Patrol Central Visayas.

In continuing its fervent commitment to help protect and preserve the environment, TV Patrol Central Visayas personalities, together with volunteers from the local government, Coast Guard Auxilliary, Philippine Navy and Cebu City RAPID, collectively cleaned and removed the pile of garbage that were left by the tropical storm Gener along the shores of Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City.

Also, diver volunteers retrieved sackfuls of trash under the sea. These trashes such as bottles, used clothing, and cans were litters coming from small boats and commercial ships. The volunteers hoped that the locals residing near coastal areas will be committed to protecting their coastal and underwater environment since it is their main source of livelihood. On the other hand, almost a thousand of mahogany and jackfruit seedlings were planted in Sitio Cantipla, Barangay Tabunan with the help of the students from the University of Cebu, and of volunteers from the Alliance of Concerned Texters and other organizations during the tree planting activity last Saturday.

The tree planting activity is a sustainable activity done in order to create a long-term improvement to the environment. TV Patrol Central Visayas main anchor Leo Lastimosa assured that the site will be revisited after six months to monitor the growth of the seedlings and replace the ones that have wilted.
