“While the country’s crime rate is said to have increased, crimes are becoming increasingly brutal and criminals are becoming younger. Is our country in a state of moral decline? Are innocent citizens still capable of protecting themselves?” asked Tony.
In his third State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Aquino bragged that crime was in decline in the country while citing data from 2011 and not 2012, earning allegations he did not use data from the current year so he could put a positive spin on his speech.
Malacanang, however, has recognized that crime rate in Metro Manila indeed increased in the first half of 2012. In fact, only 43% of recorded crimes in the metro have been resolved.
To address the alarming crime surge, Tony will present the different security instruments and measures recommended by experts and non-governmental organization Citizens Crime Watch and assess their effectivity according to victims of different offenses such as robbery and carnapping.
