“The Phantom of the Opera,” considered as one of the world’s most successful musicals, celebrated its 25th year on the West End stage last year will be staged in Manila for a strictly limited season. This Andrew Lloyd Webber’s critically acclaimed masterpiece continues to play to full houses nightly in London, New York and around the world. “The Phantom of the Opera” has been seen by over 130 million people worldwide, in more than 27 countries, has won over 50 major theatre awards, and has grossed more than $5.6 billion.
Due to exceptionally high demand, “The Phantom of the Opera” in Manila will have its season extended until September 30 at the CCP Main Theater, adding 16 more shows, the producers announced on July 15.
In announcing the season extension, Producer James Cundall, CEO of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, said “It is an enormous privilege to bring ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ to The Philippines for its premiere. I have always believed that audiences here will embrace this unforgettable show and love it as much as I do, so I am delighted to see such a strong demand for tickets, and to be able to offer 16 more performances.”
The Manila show will be directed by Harold Prince, and will feature 130 cast, crew and orchestra members, organizers said. Most recently Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, Hi-Definition Radio Inc. and Concertus brought the sell-out success Mamma Mia to the Philippines, and in 2011, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sensational musical Cats.
