The UEFA Champions league, formerly known as the European Cup is a big competition that pits top teams in Europe against each other. The game is about winning to be the crowned best team in Europe. Both Chelsea FC and FC Bayern Munich are determined to get this coveted title. Chelsea has never won it, so this makes it their very first. Bayern Munich hasn’t either but they were expecting to snatch the cup and the loss has made them feel empty, according to Bayern Munich keeper, Manuel Neuer.
“We don’t know how this happened, we always believed we could keep the cup here,” he said.
The Chelsea’s win can be attributed to their players who have done their parts. Goalkeeper Petr Èech was extremely good; he saved a penalty from Arjen Robben in the 95th minute, while Ivorian Didier Drogba had managed to tie the match with a header in the 88th minute before the end of full time. He then when on to score the decisive goal in the shootout as Chelsea beat Bayern Munich to win the Champions League final.
Chelsea enjoyed the biggest night in the history of the club, as the Blues defeated Bayern Munich on penalties to claim the Champions League trophy. They are to be lauded for winning the tournament against all the odds, where Bayern Munich was the heavy favorites to win the final.
It was the first time in their 107-year history that the Blues have celebrated winning the Champions’ Cup. “We have waited a long time for this,” said Robert Di Matteo, temporary manager of Chelsea FC. “So celebrate today because it is a fantastic day for Chelsea football club, champions of Europe.”
