Nothing stands in the way of GMA Film‘s horror movie The Road as it paves the way for Filipino stars to walk the red carpets of Hollywood. This May, the Yam Laranas thriller will make a debut in cinemas across the United States after GMA Films reached a commercial distribution agreement with international film distribution outfit Freestyle Releasing.
The US screening of The Road is also already making waves among the foreign media. The Hollywood Reporter, Fangoria.com, AllHorror.net, Bloody-Disgusting.com, FlickDaily.com, Variety.com and other print and online media outfits report that The Road will also be released in digital platforms on the same day of its theatrical debut.
Meanwhile, HollywoodWireTap.com, reported that The Road is the first all-Filipino film to be released commercially in the mainstream market in the US, adding the movie is described by the international horror press as “one of the best horror films of the year.”
Meanwhile, CityonFire.com described it as being “noted not only for delivering a terrifying experience, but also for its eerie atmosphere.”
The Road is top-billed by Rhian Ramos, Carmina Villaroel, Marvin Agustin, TJ Trinidad, with tweenstars Alden Richards, Barbie Forteza, Louise delos Reyes, Derrick Monasterio, Lexi Fernandez, Ynna Asistio and Renz Valerio. Also included in the film are John Regala, Lloyd Samartino, Gerald Madrid, Allan Paule and Ms. Jacklyn Jose.
The Road, which debuted in the Philippines in November 2011, will be shown in 50 theaters across the U.S. beginning May 11. The film will also hold a red carpet premiere on May 9 in Los Angeles.
The movie is also in competition at the 30th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF), which will be held from April 5-17, 2012. BIFFF is the largest genre festival in Europe.
