There is a move to declare Nora Aunor as a National Artist, the highest award ever given to a person who excels in a chosen field. After a proposal was made to declare Nora Aunor as National Artist, Vilma Santos and Dolphy‘s names were next to be mentioned.
Dolphy, screen name of Rodolfo Vera Quizon Jr., is regarded as the country’s “King of Comedy,” deserves the title for his contribution to Philippine cinema. He was recognized in November 2010 after President Benigno Aquino III conferred him the Grand Collar of the Order of the Golden Heart, the highest award given to a private citizen by the President of the Philippines.
There has been talk before that Comedy King Dolphy should also be conferred the national artist award. Dolphy should have been declared a National Artist long ago! Well, Dolphy does not need to fight for that award. Dolphy is in his twilight years and it is best to give the award while he is still alive. Unquestionably, Dolphy deserves to be one because he has contributed so much in the field of acting, especially in making people happy.
In the past, the national artist award was chosen from a field of visual artists, musicians, creative writer, and film directors.
