Family, friends, former colleagues and fellow journalists of veteran broadcast journalist Angelo Castro, Jr. came together to honor him in a special tribute held recently at the Dolphy Theater.
In a message read by ABS-CBN president and COO Charo Santos-Concio, ABS-CBN Chairman and CEO Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez described Castro “one of the rocks upon which ABS-CBN was built.”
ABS-CBN news and current affairs head Regina “Ging” Reyes remembered Castro as a perfectionist and a mentor, while broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez likened him to Star Wars icon Master Yoda. Tina Monzon-Palma, who was Castro’s co-anchor for 15 years in “The World Tonight,” recalled the days when they were working for different TV networks and competed against each other. Jing Magsaysay, former ANC News Director said in his eulogy that “ABS-CBN and the industry owe Angelo.” Castro’s wife June Keithley was touched by the Kapamilya network’s tribute, saying it was heartwarming to have ABS-CBN honor his husband.
Catch the emotional tribute to one of the greatest news anchors on Philippine television in the primetime telecast of “Farewell, Angelo Castro Jr.” hosted by Sanchez and “Kabayan” Noli de Castro this Friday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on ANC (SkyCable Channel 27).
