Ted Failon probes on illegal resorts in Boracay

Boracay is among the top ten beaches in the world and one of the most favorite vacation spots during summer. As business booms in the famous island, there are unscrupulous businessmen who operate their businesses illegally.

This Saturday (Mar 24), broadcast journalist Ted Failon looks into these alleged illegal establishments. One of which is said to be operating even without a properly issued building permit, mayor’s permit, and Environmental Compliance Certificate or ECC.

Aside from this, the resort was allegedly built on a no-build zone and also violated the Coastal Shoreline Setback that prohibits construction of establishments 25 meters from the sea shore. Corals and natural rock formations are also endangered in this case.

When Ted confronted the owner of the resort, he learned that it was allegedly operating through the Forest Land Agreement for Tourism Purposes that allows the temporary use of any part of the forest within 25 years.

How do these resorts affect the environments especially in Boracay? How come these illegal establishments still operate despite its lack of permits? How were they able to build their establishments in a No Build Zone?
