ABS-CBN Corp. yesterday claimed to have taken the lead anew in terms of television ratings, saying it beat rival GMA Network, Inc. from June 1 to 14 nationwide, in “Mega Manila,” and in Metro Manila.
This was confirmed by Kantar Media, formerly Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS).
Kantar Media General Manager Gabriel Buluran said ABS-CBN had a 44% audience share in the national level compared with GMA Network’s 30% for the period of June 1 to 14 while in Mega Manila, ABS-CBN got a 36% audience versus GMA Network’s 33%.
In Metro Manila, ABS-CBN got a 38% audience share, higher than GMA Network’s 30%, he said.
“ABS-CBN is leading now because of its programming. Its lineup of shows in prime time is leading compared with GMA. In the morning, ABS-CBN is still leading, followed by TV5 and then GMA. In the afternoon, ABS-CBN remains in the lead followed by GMA,” Mr. Buluran told BusinessWorld in a telephone interview yesterday.
On a year-on-year comparison, ABS-CBN’s audience share in Mega Manila grew by 0.8 points from 35.2% in June 2009, while GMA Network’s audience share decreased by seven points from 40% in June 2009.
“ABS-CBN, on the other hand, kept its stronghold in Metro Manila with its lead widening to 38% vs GMA’s 30%,” he said.
Meanwhile, 14 out of the overall top 20 programs nationwide for the period are from ABS-CBN.
“Agua Bendita is number one with an average rating of 39.5%.
ABS-CBN’s newly launched teleserye Momay proved to be a strong contender, occupying the 9th spot with 25.7%,” Mr. Buluran said.
In a statement, listed ABS-CBN said its early evening newscast topped that of GMA Network based on national ratings from Kantar Media.
“When it comes to news, most Filipinos watch TV Patrol World. It is the number one new program with an average rating of 33.2%, higher than rival 24 Oras with 22.2%. During Election Day, the whole nation tuned in to TV Patrol World for election-related news and information as it topped the national TV ratings survey on May 10 with 31.5% trouncing its competition 24 Oras.”
It added: “The country’s biggest talent-reality show Pilipinas Got Talent topped weekend programming. Its finale held last June 6 at the Araneta Coliseum hit a whopping 43.8%, the second-highest weekend rating recorded by Kantar Media after Pinoy Big Brother Double Up’s Big Night with 44.6%.”
