During the recent press conference of Magkano Ang Iyong Dangal?, Sid Lucero admitted that he’s really honored to be working with Chito Roño, especially since his dad Mark Gil said Direk Chito would be a great mentor for him. Even with critically acclaimed performances on both TV and the big screen under his belt, Sid couldn’t help but feel nervous about working with the renowned director during their first taping day. “Parang feeling ko, after all these years that I’ve been working, kahit sandali lang, parang kinailangan kong hubarin lahat ng alam ko. And he told me na you should start fresh, remove everything you know, lahat ng mga pocket reactions mo tanggalin mo ‘yan—which I greatly appreciated because I learned a lot from that day alone,” he recalled.
While he has been earning accolades for his acting, Sid maintained that he wants to focus on his craft and not let fame get to his head. “One of the first things that I took home with me from my first workshop ever is that the negative criticism would help you a lot better than positive ones. So whenever someone pats me on the back, I take it as just that, nothing more, and nothing less. What’s more important to me is kapag kini-criticize ako kasi that’s what I should be improving on,” he explained.
When asked if he and co-star Rayver Cruz feel pressured about keeping up with each other since they both come from families of great actors, Sid claimed that it shouldn’t be the case at all. “Malaking bagay sa artista ang give and take. An actor can only be as great as the actors that he’s working with. It should never be a rivalry. Kasi ‘pag inisip mo lang sarili mo then it becomes masturbatory—you’re not doing it for the art or for everyone else, it becomes for yourself. Dun lalaylay e. Kumbaga naging buwakaw ka about the spotlight when it’s supposed to be give and take. That’s why I am looking forward to work with Rayver kasi nga I’ve seen him before. It’s going to be fun.”
Coming from Dahil May Isang Ikaw where he played mostly the bad guy, Sid revealed that he’s actually challenged to act like the protagonist this time around. He will be playing Bangs Garcia’s childhood friend who eventually falls in love with her. “Unang-una minsan lang ako magkaron ng role na yung theme ng story is medyo romantic. It revolves around his relationship with another woman. Bihira lang yun. Tapos pinaka-challenge sa akin kasi ‘pag bad guy walang standards na hinahanap ang mga tao. This one, if you’re playing the good guy, meron kang sinusunod na ‘pag you cross over the border, baka hindi maganda reaction ng audience sa ’yo. So the big challenge here for me is being accepted by the public as a leading man,” he related.
