Judging from the insider’s tip, Kapuso’s ‘Sundan Natin ang Bituin Pabalik sa Kanyang Piling’ was rumored to be well-thought of and had a longer preparation as opposed to Kapamilya’s ‘Magkasama Tayo sa Kuwento ng Pasko’, but is seems the former’s lack the ‘heart’ and it gave a more literal and ancient-like interpretation of what Christmas is all about.
Yes, the two networks have spawned their reach globally, but it looks like the Kapuso station ID has taken the route of a more boring depiction while the Kapamilya’s chose to be more relevant and have conveyed a clearer message of call for unity especially during the country’s trying times.
Perhaps the only redeeming value of Kapuso’s version is that—it tried tom point to the central character of the Christmas celebration and that is Jesus. It features GMA’s Entertainment and News and Public Affairs personalities, revisiting the night of the Nativity and paying homage to the Savior. Its solemn hymn sang by Philippine Sandolphon Singers wasn’t really something that any ordinary televiewer could easily hum even if it claims to have that contemporary feel and pop blend. However, its graphics and animation weren’t impresively done. It failed to make a good impact leaving only a ‘pinch’ and not a ‘punch’ to its intended Filipino televiewers.
The Kampamilya’s may not be spectacularly executed, except of course the one that showed Lea Salonga, which was more grandiose. The scenes abroad were taken during TFC events and most of the scenes incorporated in the video were actual footage of charity events with the stars. It holds true to the very essence of ‘Bayanihan’, which the Filipino nation is really in need, amidst the many calamities and issues it is facing today. Seven true stories were meticulously researched by ABS-CBN’s Integrated Creative Communications Management and an artist was chosen based on who would best help tell the touching true-to-life tales.
If I have to choose between the two station IDs, then Kapamilya prevails, while Kapuso is simply a classic example of trying to impress and not to express the true meaning of Filipino Christmas tradition.
